Quick Post: Promiscuity and Nigerian Society
Promiscuity (definition courtesy of Wikipedia) is the practice of making relatively unselective, casual and indiscriminate choices. The term is most commonly applied to sexual behavior, where it refers to sex that is not in the framework of a steady sexual relationship, or occurs in multiple, simultaneous sexual relationships.
I came across a random piece of research into sexual behavior in Nigerian Society. In a study of 1000 young people in higher education institutions in Ilorin, Nigeria, it found casual sex to be more than 5 times more common among males than among females. What does this research actually tell us? I would probably infer that the Guys are being more truthful than the Girls. I showed it to my girlfriend who thinks that it means that there are a minority of girls who are letting the side down. Well methinks they are doing a good job of it as if the statistics are to be believed it means promiscuous girls are having five times as much sex as promiscuous guys (actually does 'promiscuous guys' qualify as tautology?).

While it is possible girls are underreporting how many partners they've had, the 5 times difference is too much to assume that. If it were two times as much, then I might buy your argument. It is more likely that nigerian men are more promiscuous than nigerian women. That's the nature of the society we live in. Girls are told to "keep themselves" and "save their virginity" for marriage, but boys don't get that message pounded into them as much. Our society calls girls ashawo, and guys players. Big difference in terminology don't you think? When people say our society is polygamous, what do they mean? That a typical African woman needs to have several husbands and lovers to satisfy her, or that a typical african man needs several wives and mistresses to satisfy him?
Think of all your nigerian friends, enemies and acquaintances. How many of them have mothers who cheated on their father or took a second husband? Then tell me how many of them have fathers who cheated on their mother or took a second wife.
Everchange while it might sound a bit flippant the second point I was making was that since guys are having lots of casual sex, in order for the research to make any sense at all it means there are some women out (the minority I spoke) who are having casual sex simultaneously with multiple guys.
That's perverse! I think you've got a really dirty mind and I feel sorry for your girlfriend (real or imagined).
Could it possibly be that the girls in the higher education institution in question are less likely to fall for the casual sex BS on offer than say the prostitutes and chickenheads (chicks outside of the uni-there's no law that says students of a uni can only fuck students in that particular institution, after all) that the guys frequent?
Btw, is that the best you can do to entertain your girlfriend? The girl's gone and got a Brazillian for God's sakes and what do you do - show her some shoddy article about promiscuity of all thangs...like she gives a fuck.

the stats are somehow believeable. naija society is sort of conservative so the chicks don't give it up easily. but guys being what they are they still fuck regularly. so what happens is that the few girls that give it up enjoy ALOT of dick: prostitues...nymphomaniacs...get-that-money-spread-that-leg-respectable-ladies.

QUite on the contrary, I can confidently say that it's a taboo for a lady to let people know that she's shagged somebody unlike the guys who talk it out when they're with their gang.
It's a generational sacrilege amongst Nigerians, but the girls wanna have some fun. Their solution proffered is to shag and shut up. More like chop and clean mouth. I know a countless number of devout muslim ladies who wear hijjab and go shag some guys. After work, they simply dust the most holy hijjab & go on their ways.
So the statistic might be correct because if you don't get information, how do you derive your stat. It's simple. The ladies are just keeping mum about their affairs.

Aihammed delot, I did think about that too, the poss that the boys are shagging each other, but I didn't really want to go there....If you read the post, you'll see that Mo' showed the article in question to his girlfriend, poss to get her opinion (expert or otherwise)on the subject. Anyway,cheap shots aside, I honestly think the guys are inflating their figures and the girls are deflating theirs. To be fair, it takes two to tango.
wow....looked at all the drama i missed. Guess u really touched on some raw nerves with this post!. well, having gone to an all girls secondary school, i think i can only answer from that point of view. the girls i know of that were active way back then were......well, VERY ACTIVE! so this 5:1 thing just might be possible. However, i don't know if this evens out through out uni life in naij, but from the contacts i have at naij uni's i'd prob say no. the girls who are giving it out are in relationships. this isn't just about sex u know, it's about RANDOM sex ie promiscuity. so i would in fact believe that guys are a lot more into that than the girls, and are prob recycling the same woman as well.

I'm sorry but I totally agree with Everchange's first comment. In addition to females keeping themselves to themselves, you haven't considered the possibility that the females are actually telling the truth. I don't like telling anyone how many people I've slept with because they won't believe me anyway, and I find this grossly insulting. Should I up the number to something 'more believable', if such a number exists? I hear guys talking about how, if a girl says she's slept with 5 guys, then it means she's actually been with 10. I find this insulting, as I said.
