Lets celebrate our sistas...

Amid all the media frenzy this week on the visit of French President Nicholas Sarkozy and his wife Carla Bruni (see here, here and here), two sistas making headlines almost got lost in the stories.

The French State Secretary in charge of foreign affairs and human rights, Rama Yade accompanied President Sarkozy on his visit. 31-year-old Senegalese-born Rama is refered to by Mr. Sarkozy as his "Condi Rice." She is beautiful, young and smart. Sista has got it going on!

The other highlight of the trip was that Sarkozy met one of my favourite Frenchmen - Arsene Wenger - in a visit to the Emirates Stadium.

Leona Lewis has become the first British woman to top the US pop chart for more than 20 years with her single Bleeding Love. Hackney born Leona won the X Factor in 2006 and became the first person of colour to win a major phone-in TV competition in the UK that I can remember. Lets hope she blows up stateside as she really deserves to.

This Election Campaign is not about Race (or is it?)

The Hilary Clinton Campaign have repeatedly reminded America about Obama's blackness (I think the fear is that Americans being fickle could forget?). The leaked pictures of Obama in Kenyan robes to the drudge report, Obama's features being darkened in a Clinton ad and Orlando Patterson, a professor of sociology at Harvard argues that the Clinton "3am in the White House" advert has racial under-tones. Now probably the most unlikely, the claim from Geraldine Ferraro of the Hilary Clinton Campaign that Obama wouldn't be leading the democratic nomiation if he were white. I don't even know where to start with this one.

I particularly like the parody below about the issue.
